MORE Information

What is our purpose?

The Belleville Running Club, informally organized in 2005, was founded with the simple goal of trying to assemble like minded individuals (runners) to share the often mundane task of the “long run.” Over the years, the BRC has developed into quite a bit more. Although we have only recently become officially organized, many of us have formed some pretty good friendships while developing a civic-minded group that promotes and supports running in the Belleville area.

The official purpose of the BRC (per our bylaws) is to promote and encourage running as a sport and as a means of healthful exercise in our community; to promote and conduct races or other activities; to disseminate information through newsletters, flyers, presentations, meetings, and educational programs; and to offer opportunities for organized and informal socializing by members.

In addition to our group runs, we are one of the main organizers of the Belleville Main Street Marathon, which is held the last Saturday of September, and the St. Clair County Law Day Run 5K, which is held the last Saturday of April; annually enter teams in the 80-mile River to River Relay in Southern Illinois; participate in the city’s adopt-a-trail program; have participated in the Get Up and Go health campaign; and have a booth at Belleville’s Chili Cookoff.

Our membership ranges from beginning runners training for their first 5K to runners that have completed dozens of marathons.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hopefully this will answer most of your questions about the Belleville Running Club. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to e-mail us.

If you are a beginner runner and looking for the FAQ’s on the beginner’s program, please go to the beginner’s page.

Are there any water stops along your runs?

There are water fountains and restrooms at the Belleville MetroLink station and we always break for water at the end of each lap.

What if I’m a real slow/real fast runner?

Both are more than welcome! Our ultimate goal is to have a diverse group or runners who run a wide variety of paces.

Can I buy a BRC Shirt?

We open an online store two to three times a year for members to purchase BRC gear, which includes short- and long-sleeve T-shirts, singlets, and hoodies. We will notify members when the store is open via our Facebook page and through e-mail.

What if I don’t want to run a billion miles like some of you?

We typically run a 3-mile or 5-mile loop. Feel free to run as many or as few laps as you’d like.

Do I have to be a member to join the group runs?

No. We do encourage you to join if you find that you enjoy the club because you’ll get benefits such as discounted BRC merchandise, discounts on member friendly races, discount codes from our sponsors, and more!

How much does membership cost?

Please see our Join Now page for current prices and details on member benefits

    Hello Belleville Runners!

    Allow me to introduce myself!

My name is Melanie Suess; I am currently the President of the Metro Milers and Assistant Race Director of the Route 66 10K.

We strive to improve our race every year, and this year’s race is no exception! We have secured a band to play before and after the race, our popular “swag bag” is back this year as a duffle bag, and, as always, we offer technical tees to all participants. In years past, we have hosted the Illinois 10K Championships, and this year, we are proud to have our race designated as the Regional 10K Championship.

A participant cap of 700 has been set this year so that we may be able to achieve our self-imposed high standards, and we do anticipate a sell out.

I’d like to personally invite you and your club members to our race, and I wanted to offer a spot around the Start/Finish area if your club would like to put up a tent. This could be a nice meet-up point for your members, and give your members a ‘home base’ from which to operate – a good place to change into that post-race pair of shoes without having to run back to the car, for example. We have done similarly ourselves at other events, and it has been a convenience.

If your members intend to leave belongings in this area during the race, we must ask you supply someone to be present during the duration of the race for the security of said belongings. There is no gear check and we are not responsible for any losses race day.

If you would like to take us up on our offer, we will need to know before race day so we are able to include space for your tent in our finish line plans. Please, let the club know within the week, or before May 17.

We hope to see you there!

Hey everybody. I just joined the running club as a member. I am really out of shape probably 55 pounds overweight.) I am not wanting to run any marathins, just get into a work out routine and be accountable, with the help of others.

Are most of the runs for practice at Belleville East?

Hey there, my name is Michael Smith and I represent a small group of social service professionals in Lake County. We are currently working on planning a Marathon, Half-Marathon, 10k and 5k in the Lake County area with the goal being not only to have a good time running, but also to benefit some great causes.

My job is to get into contact with some of the state and local running clubs to see if there would be any interest in running, volunteering, or assisting with the planning of this event. We are looking at a tentative date of April 2017 and are working diligently on the major and minor details of this endeavor.

Do you think that your group might bet interested in something like this? Whether it be running, volunteering, or assisting with planning?

If so, please feel free to reach out to me via email or phone at 847-707-1107. I will be available to answer any questions that you might have.

My name is Ryan, and I work with For Kids’ Sake, a nonprofit based in Southern Illinois that supports students and orphans in Bangladesh. I would like to personally invite you to our upcoming 5K race. We are holding the 6th Annual For Kids’ Sake Superhero 5K Run/Walk-a-thon on September 30, at Turley Park (1010 N. Glenview) in Carbondale, IL. You can register by clicking here:!walk-a-thon/j8qtx

This year, we are excited to announce our new Superhero theme! I invite you to come to the race dressed as a superhero, because your registration fee goes toward saving lives in Bangladesh; $20 can feed 57 orphans a meal. I also want to encourage you to make a team to represent the Belleville Running Club. It would be empowering to see the Belleville Running Club coming together to not only compete in the race, but also to contribute to a heroic cause. There will be awards given to the teams with the best superhero outfits, best time, and most pledges raised.

For more information, visit our website, email, or call 618-529-5044. I hope to see you in September!

    Thank you,

    Ryan Edwards

So I am thinking about joining your club but I am only 15 years old, I was wondering if this club is for youth and adults.
